Most of those who wants to prosper try to do as many good deeds we can. Though there are a few important matters we forget in this pursue of reward.
Our deeds will be weighed, not counted.
Based on our intention, sincerity and quality in our deeds depending on our means. Even if we have done a lot of good, if it was for being praised/liked or to achieve something in the world, our intention is not to please Allah. Only those deeds we do solely for our Creator, will be rewarded. A thoughtful muslim will always be struggling to keep his intention and sincerity in check. If he manages this, even if the good deed he/she does is small, the reward can be really great. Similarly, without the right intention and sincerity, a great deed, will be turned back. (Unlikely to be rewarded/may get him/her punished instead).
If we don’t fulfil the rights other have on us
We will have to give away our deeds on judgement day, to those people. Allah is not the only one who has a right on us. We must always be correcting our priority list, and give each and every their rights, according to our capability.
We will not be rewarded for our good deeds in the herafter
Without correct faith (imaan). A non-muslim might achieve good in this world from the good they have done. Though without correct faith (belief in One Creator (He is One – Tawheed), (we will be accountable for how we live our life – individually and rewarded or punished accordingly) -Judgement Day, His Angels, the eternal life after death – Herafter, Allahs previous Messengers and His books, and that Prophet Muhammad is the last Messenger of Allah.
This is the bear minimum.
The more we will strive/struggle in this cause the more our ranks will be raised. May Allah keep us focused on always striving/struggling to have the sunnah intentions, sunnah sincerity and sunnah quality in our deeds, so that we will be immensely rewarded. O Allah, accept my supplications. May Allah make it easy for us to prosper in both worlds. Aameen.
