Jihad is equal to struggle. To struggle in the way of Allah. Struggle to be good with your inner self. Struggle to do righteous deeds. Struggle to be good to family, friends and kin. Struggle to remember Allah. Struggle to obey Allah. Struggle to speak good. Struggle to protect ourselves from bad matters (lying, backbiting, slander). Struggle to make our conduct good. Struggle to correct our hijab, modesty and control over our private part. Struggle to keep our soul, heart and body clean and pure. Struggle to get rid of arrogance and bad qualities. Struggle to support good and speak against wrongdoers. For the real practising muslims. The struggle is REAL. All this is jihad, to struggle in the way of Allah, to become a good practising muslim. Ya Allah, grant us to win our biggest jihad. Aamen. The struggle we fight with our own self (nafs) every day. Aamen.

coal hand islamMost people talk bad about women that wear hijab. Without lifting an eyebrow about women in their life, who not only doesn`t wear hijab, but also pluck eyebrows and wear perfume. These women, girls are not looked by men with good intentions.

Most people talk bad about women that avoid mix gatherings or places where there is played music. Without lifting an eyebrow about the people who think that music uplifts them. Most of who seek places where they easily can interact with the other gender. This is most people idea of having fun.

Most people backbite women who avoid certain arrangements and tv-channels even if they are for women only. While they don`t mind that many of the places, even at islamic programs, there is a lot of noise and most people are backbiting and many muslims are making fun of others.

Most people talk bad about people who care about what they eat, every ingredients so that they don`t eat anything that is not allowed. They can use a lot of time finding the right restaurant or checking the ingredients in all foods. Or questioning the employee about this. While they care little of those who eat all kinds of meat, and all kinds of food, and never dare to question for a second time if the food actually is halal. Disregarding, caring little for that the food they eat has an impact on their behaviour.

Most people think those who are always speaking the truth, are foolish, because it gets them into trouble. While they don`t care for the fact that the angels doesn`t like to company people who lies.

Most people make fun of many sunnah`s of the Prophet Muhammad pbuh. The sad part is that most of them doesn`t know that making fun of any parts of Islam, can take you/ and your children, further away from it. How can your claim of loving the prophet pbuh be true, while you make fun of his simple life-style.

Most people doesn`t like paying much money, when it comes to learning the deen, attending online courses or buying books. While they can utilize many thousands in buying a new car/ house/ vacation just to impress their friends.

Most people doesn`t get impressed by conduct/ knowledge/ hikmah/ in deen or people who takes practicing Islam seriously. They get impressed by bank-balance, expensive cars, big houses, mobile phones and clothing from expensive brands. Non of which will help them attain jannah.

Instead of looking with disgust at people who are trying to be more practicing, we should actually give these people a break. Today many people say that people force other muslims to practice Islam. Where? As I see it, the community, so-called muslims by name, are making it difficult for practicing muslims, to practice Islam, as it came. Instead of pointing fingers at people you don`t know. Try to understand certain people by what they are avoiding. Maybe we can understand them more after that.

wrong and right. In some countries eating with your hands is seen as something good and normal. In other societies it is seen as abnormal to eat without cutlery. Societies and countries have made their written and un-written rules about what they see as normal. Something that is common in some societies is seen as backwards or illegal in other societies.

In many countries smoking cigarettes is seen as normal.

In fact if people attend a gathering and they don`t smoke or drink in that gathering, they are seen as backwards or old-fashioned. Even though we all know that smoking is hazardous to our health. It`s even done major campaigns to help people get motivated to stop. Drinking is also seen as a norm. You can`t have fun without it. The people who attend a party and doesn`t drink, do not know how to have fun. Though the police often talk about drunk teenagers being in a really bad condition after going home from a party. Drinking leads to many bad things, nothing good comes from it. Even though drinking is seen as normal, and anyone who doesn`t drink is seen as abnormal.

In some countries it seen as normal to have children outside of marriage.

Though we know that most children that grow up with one parent, doesn`t get the proper up-bringing a couple can give. Though it is seen as normal, even if it leads to people with many problems in the society. It is not good for a child to not have both parents with them. Or to have to have a father or a mother. A father can never take the whole role of a mother and the mother can never take the whole role of a father in a child’s life. The father and the mother complete each other and give their children the love, nurture, care and provide for them better when they have each other. Therefore same-gender parents are not good for the children. Even though in some countries it is seen as normal. Again the norm of the society makes something that is bad for the children, allowed. If the child grows up without knowing who their parent is, that is also detrimental for those individuals.

We know that weapons and knives can harm

We know that it is not good for all people to have weapons. We know that people can get killed and injured. Even when it can be an accident. We know out of numbers and incidents that in America there are many deaths because it is easy to buy weapons. Many people harm other because of it. It is not good for the society. Using weapons and showing off with them, is seen as cool and normal. Though we know it can take a life. We say we don`t want more wars, but many countries are earning lots of millions because they are selling weapons to other countries. This is seen as normal. I know your going to mis-use the weapons I`m selling you, but just because I need to earn that money, I don`t “mind” that you take as many lives as you want with it? Is this normal for you? We are talking authorities here. Not ordinary people. Authorities that maybe sitting in some peace congregation and promoting peace for all. But are they really, really working for it or against it? Being biased is seen as normal. That is not normal to me. These weapons take lives. A life in Pakistan or Syria is just as much worth as a life in Britain, Russia or America. When we are making it easy for other to kill other people, we are not working for the peace we were promoting in the congregation of UN or work for betterment for children or mothers like UNICEF promotes.

The average people has talked about someone in their absence

I guess over 70% of people backbite others. It is seen as normal in most societies today. If you are of those people whom dislike it, you would probably avoid social gatherings. Most socializing involves talking behind some people. If you don`t you are seen as a bore, whom doesn`t have anything to entertain with. When in fact a person whom is talking about others life, is indirect saying that my life is so boring, that I need to tell you about another person so that you would want to talk with me. The best people are those who talk about ideas and have healthy discussions that does not involving in talking bad about other people. Talks that are meaningful and bring out good, motivates and inspires.

It is not normal until it is good for you

We know that smoking, drinking, buying weapon, mixing without marriage, backbiting is bad for us. If the society and its people set a norm that is bad for the people, why is it seen as normal, when it makes ab-normal people. This has everything to do with humanity and wanting what is best for each other. We don`t need to be christian, jew, hindu, atheist or a muslim to know that all of these matters are harmful for our well-being. I can`t understand the fact that the community can legalize anything that is harming its citizens. It is not ok. And it is not normal. We need to define what is good, as normal. Don`t let people with wrong values decide what normal is to you, just because a lot of people are indulging in it. Right is right even if only one person is doing it. Wrong is wrong even if the whole community has “legalized” it. We want to normalize as norms, what is good for our  hearts, souls and bodies to build healthy people and good communities for muslims and non-muslims where we live.

couple, marriage, holding husbandHave you ever received an invitation to a fiest and not been able to decide wether you should attend or not? Islamicly when we receive an invitation we are obliged to accept it, to maintain good ties of kinship with friends and family. It is seen as a sin to break ties with kin. I have a few thoughts about whether one should accept an invitation or not. If we are invited to a party where you know there will be music and free mixing while some are not wearing islamic dresses, if you are a practicing muslim, you would think twice before you attend such a fiest. If these things are important to you and they are not important to those who invited you, maybe you would feel uncomfortable and not easily fit in.

Attending Or Not Attending, That Is The Question

If we turn the situation around and a muslimah is having a party and you know it is going to be islamicly correct and not music or free mixing, if you are such a person that likes the opposite, you might not attend the gathering. Your excuse? It doesn`t match to what you think is fun for you. It is not seen as something good when we turn down an invitation. Though if attending that fiest goes against your soul and your heart. Those hours you spend there would most probably be like a punishment. When we turn down an invitation with these kind of excuses we are seen as extreme? Or people might think that we have so high thoughts about ourselves or think we are better. It`s not about being better than the other. It`s more about not doing something that your soul and heart is going to hate. If we were in touch with the emotions of our soul we would understand this very easily. The soul longs for Allah and Islam. Anything that takes you away from it, would suffocate the soul.

Shy Away If You Don`t Manage It

People are different. Yes we are in this world and have to live here. People who have the same ideas/thoughts befriend each other. It is very difficult to understand a friendship between people whom are totally different. For example there are people whom often lie and backbite and see it as a hobby to severe ties between people. On the other side there are people who wants to avoid backbiting and lying and likes to mend matters between people. I can`t see how these two kinds of people can be friends for a long time. If they will manage that most probably one of them will become like the other. The qualities of the people we spend the most time with rub off on us too. When one of the person will backbite the other might stop him/her and say don`t talk about others. One of them might have to give in, eventually. Maybe the person whom doesn`t lie, will start lying, because of the effect of his friend. Your friends say a lot about you. Some people say you will be like the 5 people you spend the most time with. That is why it is important to check your circle of friends and either help each other become better or shy away if you think you do not have capacity to manage that.

Respect Their Decision

If you see such a person that is shying away from your company don`t automatically think that the person think he / she is arrogant. Don`t make assumptions that make you misunderstand a situation. Maybe that person is trying protect his / her soul from company that suffocates him/her. If people`s idea of fun can be different. Some people find islamicly lectures boring, while others doesn`t want to attend anything that is un-islamic. Different people different preferences. Pointing fingers won`t make a lie become the truth. Respect their decision and leave it between them and Allah. May Allah help us understand this. Aameen.

strong, brain, excersise, trening, hjernen (1)Can you imagine that sometimes when you speak with your friends, you`re giving away your good deeds to those you don`t like. If that wasn`t enough you are also receiving their bad deeds in your account. The worst deal we can ever make is to backbite others, and that is what this comes from.

What To Socialize About?

Have you ever seen people whom likes to tell stories, without any friends? I certainly have not. People like to be with others whom is good at telling stories. Doesn`t matter if they are true or not, as long as they are funny and entertaining. Have you thought of if people would stop backbiting if we didn`t lend them our ears. If no one would want to listen to stories because they would know that more than 50% of it could be all made by assumptions, and give them a deaf ear, they`d immediately stop. People need something to talk about and socialize about. I like the quote : “Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people” – Eleanor Roosevelt. If we think that we have great minds, why do we than degrade ourselves by discussing people? If we used more time discussing ideas, we`d might certainly find more solutions to our issues.

Our Perception Is Coloured By Our Values

What we talk about says something about who we are and is coloured by our perception of matters. Two friends are in a coffee shop drinking coffee while they see something strange happening. Because of their individual perception, they will speak and understand what they saw differently. They have invisible glasses on them that are made by their values. So even if they tell the story about this incident to two different people, chances are they won`t match. And if those two people they talked to are friends and somehow discuss what they told them, they will see how different they understood it, and how it is coloured with their point of view.

whoever gossips with you, will gossip about youPeople Like The Juicy / Funny Stories

Ancient historical happenings aren`t as interesting as the juicy and funny stories about their friends party the other day. Can you guarantee that a storyteller hasn`t told a lie? People like to listen to that which makes them feel good about themselves. What can possibly make them feel better than seeing someone they dislike, struggling in something. Prophet Muhammad pbuh has said that being happy when some people are afflicted with a calamity, can be difficult for them. Allah can save those afflicted with the calamity and make it a blessing for them and afflict those who laughed, with the same or something similar, that the other was saved from. So never be happy in others misfortunes. No muslim is allowed to make fun of or laugh of other fellow muslims or call them by offensive nicknames, Surah Hujraat. Seriously, today, do you know someone whom hasn`t laughed at another fellow muslim once, in a day. Yes we call ourselves muslims, but we are sometimes far from the manners it teaches. May Allah guide us.

Rasollallah Wants To See The Whole Ummah In Paradise

Another story which is connected to backbiting is something mostly girls/women do a lot; make allies. When couple of friends doesn`t like one person in the click, they can easily, fill their friends with hatred about them. She said, this and that about you, which could have been said but the intention for saying something and what it meant could have been 180 degrees opposite. Winning friends by fueling each other with hatred about each other, is not uncommon amongst girls/women. Jealousy kicks in once in a while and they don`t like that others succeed. Bringing others down won`t make you look better. Those who help other when they are down to achieve a similar success are the truly succesful people. Jannah is for all, right. If you don`t share your success stories with your surroundings in case they succeed more than you, your jealousy would eat up your good deeds. Imagine you tell something good to someone, and they perfect it more than you. One thought could lead to jealousy and the other to gratefulness. The gratefulness would come of the fact that every good deed that person does will be added to your account of deeds, just because you directed them to it. So all in all, being good can never be a loss. We should strive to become better than what we are today, recognizing our own potential. Our goal is not to be better than someone else at the mosque or any other event. Sallallaho wasallam wants to see all of his Ummah in Paradise. So if someone err, you can be a gentle reminder or at least, don`t be the reason others fail.

gossip1You Will Gain Only Good From It

A sunnah that can be revived is making excuses for your brother when you don`t know the whole story. If you hear something from someone regarding any matter, don`t think of it as the ultimate truth. One can draw a parallel to the mother of the believers, Ayesha raa. She was seen with another person and was left behind because of the necklace that she had lost on the way. When people saw here, they starting making all these tales about her. They only spoke about what they saw, but didn`t know the reasons behind. Allah proved her innocence in the Quran. Things aren`t always as they seem. Sometimes our own perception colours our glasses, but isn`t the entirely truth. That is why it is so important to have goodwill for our brothers and sisters in Islam. Whenever someone backbites anyone, make excuses, because we don`t know whether the backbiter is true or not or if he has made a tale out of assumptions. Think good of others. Give the backbiters a deaf ear. Next time they have something to tell, they won`t come to you. The thing is, it won`t be your loss. You will gain only good from it. Only when people will stop listening to backbiting, the vicious circle of blabbering mouths, would also stop. The punishment for the sin of the mouth is severe. A person can fall very deep into hell just because of some word he/she utters, or be given a higher status in Jannah because of something good he/she says. “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but those who watch them without doing anything”.

never give up, chessWe are all priceless people and our individuality must be nourished. Instead of trying to fit in, we should help and encourage children to dare to stand out in a crowd, from a young age. Dare to go against the crowd. Just because some norms have become ordinary doesn`t mean we can`t evaluate, adjust and make better norms. The society and we are gradually changing whether we want it or not. Even if we resist change, it won`t stop the earth from spinning in its course or the sun or the moon from shining. Maturity is to accept change. Not only accept it but be an active part in inspiring/motivating a change for the better. An hadith quoted by Prophet Muhammad pbuh said: That time Islam came it was introduced as something strange, because it differed from the society at that time. He pbuh goes on saying that it will return to something strange, so glad tidings to the strangers. Just because it has become a norm that it isn`t “normal” to i.e. pray regularly / not backbite / wear hijab etc, doesn`t mean we can`t go back to the Sunnah of our Prophet pbuh, renew our intentions and make a norm that we are going to try to achieve this and make it a norm in our life. Our Prophet pbuh has said that anyone who reminds people about forgotten Sunnah and is capable of motivating them to follow it will have the reward of all those who start following it, without it detracting the least from their reward. (Tirmidhi). Subhan Allah what an immense opportunity. Eventually it can become an ongoing charity that only increases and pass on for generations to come. We just need to start somewhere.

Everyone has to start from where they are.

Some knows much but follows little, other knows little but follows new things they learn. In the beginning when Allah guides us to Islam, either we are born muslim or convert to it, we start by focusing on the outward appearance. Proper salah, beard, hijab, pay zakat etc. When our zaahir / outwardly looks like a muslim, we can focus on the inwardly things that are invisible, baatin, like character, taqwa, intention etc. Just because a brother has beard or a sister has hijab doesn`t tell us whether they are mu`min one that does what is required in Islam and stays away from what`s prohibited and the extra voluntary Ibaadah as well or on the other side one that is just a muslim and believes in Islam but doesn`t follow all the rules. But to come anywhere near becoming a mu`min we need to start being a muslim. You know at the time of the Prophet pbuh and tabièn, people put more effort in improving their baatin, and had a not so good zaahir. They were the best of muslims. Nowadays people may have a beautiful zaahir but rather bad baatin because of bad character. Jealousy, envy, hatred, having bad thoughts about other, backbiting, spreading malicious gossip has become the norm rather than the exception. A good deed will still be a good deed, even if no one does it, a bad deed will still be a bad deed, even if everyone does  it. Instead of supporting eachother in doing bad deeds, we should rather try to motivate eachother to do good deeds. What is within our capacity.

Friends for eternity

It is important that we look at others who are better than us in deen, to motivate us also to improve ourselves. Our friends has an impact on our personality. If we always hang around with righteous people, their thoughts and behaviour will rub off on us too. If we always spend time with people who are worse than us in deen, we might learn things that will misguide us further away from Islam. Allah is the only One Who guides. If one person in a circle of friends becomes better, he/she should also try to change his/her surrounding. If that is not possible than at least don`t let his environment change him/her and try to seek more righteous company.

own faults
Make others feel hopeful rather than hopeless

Iman rises with doing good deeds and decreases by sinning. Because the nature of humans is that they sometime or other will fall into sin, it is important that we turn back to Allah and repent as soon as this happens. Make it a habit to not let our sin make us feel hopeless. We need to be feeling hopeful of Allah`s forgiveness. He forgives everything as long as we have pure intentions and make amends. We should also have a responsibility on others that we always make other feel hopeful of Allah`s Mercy. Or else we will be made answerable for coming in the way of someone whom wanted to turn back to Allah, but because of our negativity, strayed. Hate the sin, but not the sinner, as everyone can and will sin. An awesome quote says: just because someone sins different from us, shouldn`t make us feel better than them. Allah loves the humble sinner more than those people whom becomes proud after he/she has done a good deed. We must know that anything good we have done, it is because Allah guided us. He is the only one whom guides. So he wants us to do it. It should make us feel thankful/grateful, that he chose us to be amongst those people whom does some good deeds, be it prayer, charity or someone whom helps other or anything that leads to good. Allah inspires good things to us. It is not because of ourselves.

People find faults even where there are few

We should not be scared of showing the world that we are muslims, by having beard/ hijab etc or performing salah. Though it is also important that if we have started with something good, let it become a norm before we share it with others. The evil eye is for real. There are some people whom no matter what good things you do, they`ll always pinpoint the mistakes, rather than appreciating the good you do. Don`t mind others. We will get back from Allah. People criticize, judge, find faults even if there aren`t many. Allah hides flaws, forgives, helps through difficult times, regardless of amount of sins. As long as we purify our intentions once in a while, we will always turn back to Him to put our trust where it belongs. He is sufficient for us. When our intention is to please Allah, we won`t mind what people say. Some times they are on your side, other times they are against you. People change quicker than the weather. If we rely on Allah alone, we will not be disappointed. There is no better support in the universe than Him. We dare to stand out in a gathering, only when we know we are on the right path. May Allah guide and keep us on the right path always. Ameen summa ameen.

My Prayer..

“O Allah, place light in my heart, and on my tongue light, and in my ears light and in my sight light, and above me light, and below me light, and to my right light, and to my left light, and before me light and behind me light. Place in my soul light. Magnify for me light, and amplify for me light. Make for me light and make me a light. O Allah, grant me light, and place light in my nerves, and in my body light and in my blood light and in my hair light and in my skin light.” Ameen
