tumhaari-thaukaron-se-taaj-paaye-tajdaron-neHazoor Paak pbuh has said a muslim is a mirror to another muslim, when he /she sees anything wrong in it, he / she tells him / her. Often times when we are low in imaan, we dislike being advised from others. When anyone corrects us, we are greatly wounded. We forget that part of being a muslim is not only want yourself to prosper but also others. When someone corrects us, the sunnah way, we can try to immediately think that it is part of our faith. And those who have strong faith, they correct others, within their means. The weak-faithed think of the sin as bad only in their heart, and dis-allow themselves to correct anyone.

How Dhikr Helped Me

Dhikr is something that changed me in many ways and helped me deal with my heart. Often times we have knowledge of what deeds are sinful and what deeds are rewarding. Still we don`t manage to save ourselves from the bad stuff. The issue here is, as I have learned in dhikr mehfil, that if our heart is not good, no matter how much good information we have knowledge of, our actions will not change according to it. To be able to act upon the good we know and here in mehfil in the mosque etc, we need to have a good, sound heart. The only way to achieve that is first repentance, with following dhikr of Allah. Slowly we will be able to clean our heart for all kind of bad qualities and become receptive of good advice and gentle and firm corrections. That is the only way. There is no shortcut to success. Everyone has to take the stairs. In other words, it is recommended to do dhikr of Allah every day. As repentance cleanses the heart and dhikr polishes it.

When Your Heart Reminds You

When we are low in imaan, we have to drag ourselves to prayer and other good deeds. Our imaan increases by doing good deeds, and decreases by doing bad deeds. If you keep yourself motivated and make yourself do good deeds, even though you don`t feel like it. If you are consistent in doing this, one day your heart, soul will remind you of the good deeds you need to do. You will not be able to have peace without having done those good deeds.

Change Your Focus Towards The Quran

Self-motivation, self-empowering is the key. We can`t always rely on others, when we are down. Of course others also have increasing and decreasing imaans. Whenever we are down, turn to Allah`s book, read surah`s, listen to famous reciters. It will change your focus, whenever you forget. Nothing makes the soul and heart happy and content as the speech of Allah.

Choose The Company Of Wisdomful Muslims

If you feel you are not able to do as good deeds as you want to. Change your company. Sometimes we don`t realize that others heartbreaking comments about our deen does have a bad effect on us. In other words, surround yourself with people who not only have the knowledge of Islam but most importantly, also have wisdom of it. In other words, their knowledge is rooted in their actions. They don`t only talk about the salah but also know about tactics of how to increase concentration in salah and ibaadah. They don`t only talk about the strength of Hazoor Paak pbuh and his followers ra but they have also gained these strengths themselves.

Does It Change Your Behaviour?

I have learned from dhikr mehfils, that often time, we go to gatherings where special islamic days are celebrated. When we sit there our hearts are filled with imaan. When we leave the gathering and come home, almost the most of it is forgotten, and life is the same as before we went there. What I have learned through dhikr mehfil is that, if the gathering doesn`t change your behaviour for the better. Than what is the point of going there. For example, in his dars the imaam sahib is talking about the bad effects of gheebat, chugli, bohtan, envy and other diseases of the heart. He explains that we must get rid of it, because it destroys our good deeds. What effect has the information had on anyone, when minutes after the gathering is finished, we start doing these deeds. Inside the mosque? If good knowledge doesn`t have any effect on us, maybe our heart must be cleaned and the advisors has to be wisdomful advisors, in other words, themselves also living according to the advice they are giving. Or else the time will be wasted, by the attendees and the imaam.

Few Pointers To Summarize:

1. Surround yourself with good people.
2. Work on your heart with repentance and dhikr.
3. When you gain knowledge work to gain the wisdom by internalizing it in your conduct.
4. Self-empowerment. Self-motivation. Don`t rely on others. Turn to Allah, through Quran, sunnah.
5. Constantly work on the qualities of your heart. There is no other way to prosper. Advice has no effect without qalbe-salim.
6. Your imaan will decrease and increase. It is inevitable. Learn how to recognize the signs of low imaan, to protect yourself from it.
7. Allah`s mercy is greater than His wrath. Mistakes are inevitable. Allah forgives all sins. Turn to Allah every time and re-start your life.

Ya Allah, Help Us, Help Ourselves. Aameen.

May Allah grant a heart that has a good balance between fear of Him and Love of Him. Grant us a heart that accepts advice. Grant us a heart that is firm on Your path, Islam. Don`t let our hearts, souls deviate from your seeratul-mustaqim. Grant us knowledge and wisdom of deen and dunya, so that we can prosper in both. Grant us your khaas qurbat and Hazoor Paak pbuh khaas hazoori, rehnomai and rohaniyat. Cleanse our heart, soul and eyes, and grant us a khaas reflection of Hazoor Paak pbuh in all of these. Aameen summa aameen.

never give up, chessWe are all priceless people and our individuality must be nourished. Instead of trying to fit in, we should help and encourage children to dare to stand out in a crowd, from a young age. Dare to go against the crowd. Just because some norms have become ordinary doesn`t mean we can`t evaluate, adjust and make better norms. The society and we are gradually changing whether we want it or not. Even if we resist change, it won`t stop the earth from spinning in its course or the sun or the moon from shining. Maturity is to accept change. Not only accept it but be an active part in inspiring/motivating a change for the better. An hadith quoted by Prophet Muhammad pbuh said: That time Islam came it was introduced as something strange, because it differed from the society at that time. He pbuh goes on saying that it will return to something strange, so glad tidings to the strangers. Just because it has become a norm that it isn`t “normal” to i.e. pray regularly / not backbite / wear hijab etc, doesn`t mean we can`t go back to the Sunnah of our Prophet pbuh, renew our intentions and make a norm that we are going to try to achieve this and make it a norm in our life. Our Prophet pbuh has said that anyone who reminds people about forgotten Sunnah and is capable of motivating them to follow it will have the reward of all those who start following it, without it detracting the least from their reward. (Tirmidhi). Subhan Allah what an immense opportunity. Eventually it can become an ongoing charity that only increases and pass on for generations to come. We just need to start somewhere.

Everyone has to start from where they are.

Some knows much but follows little, other knows little but follows new things they learn. In the beginning when Allah guides us to Islam, either we are born muslim or convert to it, we start by focusing on the outward appearance. Proper salah, beard, hijab, pay zakat etc. When our zaahir / outwardly looks like a muslim, we can focus on the inwardly things that are invisible, baatin, like character, taqwa, intention etc. Just because a brother has beard or a sister has hijab doesn`t tell us whether they are mu`min one that does what is required in Islam and stays away from what`s prohibited and the extra voluntary Ibaadah as well or on the other side one that is just a muslim and believes in Islam but doesn`t follow all the rules. But to come anywhere near becoming a mu`min we need to start being a muslim. You know at the time of the Prophet pbuh and tabièn, people put more effort in improving their baatin, and had a not so good zaahir. They were the best of muslims. Nowadays people may have a beautiful zaahir but rather bad baatin because of bad character. Jealousy, envy, hatred, having bad thoughts about other, backbiting, spreading malicious gossip has become the norm rather than the exception. A good deed will still be a good deed, even if no one does it, a bad deed will still be a bad deed, even if everyone does  it. Instead of supporting eachother in doing bad deeds, we should rather try to motivate eachother to do good deeds. What is within our capacity.

Friends for eternity

It is important that we look at others who are better than us in deen, to motivate us also to improve ourselves. Our friends has an impact on our personality. If we always hang around with righteous people, their thoughts and behaviour will rub off on us too. If we always spend time with people who are worse than us in deen, we might learn things that will misguide us further away from Islam. Allah is the only One Who guides. If one person in a circle of friends becomes better, he/she should also try to change his/her surrounding. If that is not possible than at least don`t let his environment change him/her and try to seek more righteous company.

own faults
Make others feel hopeful rather than hopeless

Iman rises with doing good deeds and decreases by sinning. Because the nature of humans is that they sometime or other will fall into sin, it is important that we turn back to Allah and repent as soon as this happens. Make it a habit to not let our sin make us feel hopeless. We need to be feeling hopeful of Allah`s forgiveness. He forgives everything as long as we have pure intentions and make amends. We should also have a responsibility on others that we always make other feel hopeful of Allah`s Mercy. Or else we will be made answerable for coming in the way of someone whom wanted to turn back to Allah, but because of our negativity, strayed. Hate the sin, but not the sinner, as everyone can and will sin. An awesome quote says: just because someone sins different from us, shouldn`t make us feel better than them. Allah loves the humble sinner more than those people whom becomes proud after he/she has done a good deed. We must know that anything good we have done, it is because Allah guided us. He is the only one whom guides. So he wants us to do it. It should make us feel thankful/grateful, that he chose us to be amongst those people whom does some good deeds, be it prayer, charity or someone whom helps other or anything that leads to good. Allah inspires good things to us. It is not because of ourselves.

People find faults even where there are few

We should not be scared of showing the world that we are muslims, by having beard/ hijab etc or performing salah. Though it is also important that if we have started with something good, let it become a norm before we share it with others. The evil eye is for real. There are some people whom no matter what good things you do, they`ll always pinpoint the mistakes, rather than appreciating the good you do. Don`t mind others. We will get back from Allah. People criticize, judge, find faults even if there aren`t many. Allah hides flaws, forgives, helps through difficult times, regardless of amount of sins. As long as we purify our intentions once in a while, we will always turn back to Him to put our trust where it belongs. He is sufficient for us. When our intention is to please Allah, we won`t mind what people say. Some times they are on your side, other times they are against you. People change quicker than the weather. If we rely on Allah alone, we will not be disappointed. There is no better support in the universe than Him. We dare to stand out in a gathering, only when we know we are on the right path. May Allah guide and keep us on the right path always. Ameen summa ameen.

You have probably one time or the other met some people whom are two-faced. They say something else to you against someone else, and when they meet that person, they say something to that person against you, chugli is what we call that in Urdu. Usually this could be out of jealousy, someone has a better car, husband, house or work than you, and you can`t see that person being so happy so you try to make that person`s life miserable somehow. I`m talking about the so-called leg-pullers. Remember that one time or the other, the truth will prevail, even if it`s on judgement day, so beware how you try to trick others or sowing hatred between them!

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has said:

“You will find that among the most evil of people with Allah (i.e. among the most evil people in the Judgement Day) on the Day of Resurrection is he who is two-faced: who goes to these (a group of people) with one face, and to these (another group of people) with another face. (Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim).

Al-Qurtubee said;

“A two-faced person is regarded as so evil because he is like a hypocrite; he /she sweetly talks with falsehood and lies, and sows dissension among people”.

A two-faced person is one who goes to each group with what pleases it, giving the appearance that he is from it and opposed to its counterpart (or enemy). His / her action is pure hypocrisy, lying, deception and trickery. But if a person goes to two groups in order to make peace between them, then he / she is doing something that is praiseworthy. Others have said: the difference is that a two-faced person praises the group he / she is with and finds faults with the other group, and he / she does the same when he / she is in the company of the other group. On the other hand, the praiseworthy person goes to each other of the two groups with words of reconciliation, finding excuses for one group while he is with the other, trying to convey good points of the other group while hiding their faults.

If you have people like this in your acquaintances, try your utmost to not make them angry and try to shy away from them. These people can change for the wrong at any possible time. Try to keep away from their company. Not having any company is better than having bad company. If people who have bad values are your friends, one day or the other that would rub over on you, even if you don`t wan`t it to happen.

Do you actually want to stay with these people to try to change them, when they can hurt you bad, really bad. Isn`t it better that you save yourself and your loved ones from them? Yes, I hope and pray that you would agree to that 😉

My Prayer..

“O Allah, place light in my heart, and on my tongue light, and in my ears light and in my sight light, and above me light, and below me light, and to my right light, and to my left light, and before me light and behind me light. Place in my soul light. Magnify for me light, and amplify for me light. Make for me light and make me a light. O Allah, grant me light, and place light in my nerves, and in my body light and in my blood light and in my hair light and in my skin light.” Ameen
