muslim-child-boy-sujodWhen a child steps out of the toilet, most mothers will ask: “Did you remember to wash your hands, dear?”. If the mother is a practising muslimah, she will most probably add: “Did you remember to wash yourself behind with water, and did you remember to wash your hands after that?”. Muslims take cleanliness very seriously. We have been taught from our religion that the purity of our income (halal earning), the purity of what we eat (halal food), has an effect on how we behave, what we think etc.

A Man And The Desert

There was a man in the desert who had lost his camel, with food and water. He was all alone. Left to die. In his last effort to find help, he falls on his knees and prays to Allah “help me”. In response of this Allah says, ” how can I help you, when what you are wearing comes from un-halal resources. What you have eaten is un-halal food. What you have been doing is un-halal. How can Allah, accept your prayer.

marsmallow-white Say No To Marshmallows With Gelatine

We have difficulties in controlling our desires for money, status, beauty, position, wealth, satisfy needs of body. This is because, just like our body needs to exercise to be strong, and our intellect is in need of training to increase IQ, our soul needs spirituality to keep it strong, our will (nafs – myself) needs exercise to make good decisions in life and being able to withhold oneself from prohibitions. To be able to not steal a marshmallow, when your hungry, just because, there is some time before you will have your own marshmallow. Ability to say no to women / men who wants to have sex with you. (Like Yusuf a.s in surah Yusuf). The lesson talks about a young man who was seduced by a woman, but muslim women, young and beautiful, have difficulties, stepping out of their homes too, for college, for work, for mosque etc. Many have hijab, and many don’t. Nowadays many women beautify their hijab, which caused fitnah, and the main purpose of hijab is lost. How can youth and adults win the control over ourself in times of fitnah?

Cultivate Sweetness Of Salah, Khusho, Complete Fardh

Hazoor Pak pbuh has said, the first matter we will lose, when the fitnah occurs is the khusho. The salah was the greatest comforter for our Prophet pbuh. When he lost his first wife, Khadijah raa and His pbuh uncle, and his pbuh enemies increased, and he pbuh had no tribe leaders who could support him like his pbuh uncle. The incident of Taif, when he pbuh tried to win some support, and was humiliated and injured, by the people in that city. Allah gave him the gift of salah to find comfort. Imagine if the fitnah in world is increasing and we will lose what will take away our biggest comfort, what state will we be in than. Trying to find another comfort. Is there anyone who can comfort us as the deen of Allah? NO. Most of those who pray, knows how difficult it is to develop khusho in salah. It is a bit like sweetness of salah. No one will be granted the sweetness of anything, unless they first do the minimum fardh. So if the state of the ummah is, that about 10 percent of us read salah 5 times a day, those who read it once in a while, will not be able to cultivate proper khusho. So we need to help each other to encourage reading the five daily prayers, everyday, no matter what.

At The Time Of Desires Or Anger

In times of anger and desire, many people are not able to control their nafs. They go out of control, and later regret. Hazoor Paak pbuh has taught us to do wudhu in times of anger and desires. That will reduce it, and give us a control back. At the same time it cleans us from our impurities, when the sins falls with the drops that goes into the sink. We need to revive the sunnah of doing wudhu and keeping wudhu. A muslim who prays, must do wudhu minimum 5 times a day. If we keep ourselves in the state of wudhu, we will also have angels accompany us. And Allah will protect us. Purity is not only for the soul and the body. We must do tawbah and repentance everyday, to clean our impurities of bad qualities in the heart. The gossiping, envy, jealousy, arrogance comes from an un-clean heart. If we clean it everyday, the good of it will be seen more often. Our deeds says a lot about the state of our heart. If we are good in public and private, it is because of a good heart, purified from bad qualities. Ya Allah grant us to win the struggle and master our effort of perfecting our tawbah and repentance every day. For us, our family, friends and all ummati. Another aspect of purity is, to keep our clothes clean from impurities. Cleaning the private part, and clothing, in a way that it stays clean and pure. If it wouldn`t have been for or Islam, would we have done this? How different stains of najasa, impurity, has to be washed. If our clothing is not clean and our wudhu not properly done, our salah will not be accepted. Keeping ourself pure, in soul, body, clothing and food, is because of what we learn from our religion.

Tools For Youth To Find Comfort

From our child turns 9, he is guided to start salah. From the reading of the daily prayers he understands cleanliness. As he turns into a teen, he will experience more fitnah, at the same type of feelings he has to understand. His body is changing. He has to find himself. Wants and dislikes, hobbies, friends. Allah didn`t make salah a fardh from year of 9 without any wisdom behind it. If your child learns to do wudhu often to get control over desires, anger in puberty. At the same time finds comfort through salah. You have helped him find a way to cope through his teens, with tools that can help him prosper. Not only is he completing the fardh, his ranks are raised because of it. He is of those who will achieve the Throne of Allah on his head, because he turned to Allah in his youth. Allah has said it himself, the way to find peace is in the remembrance of Allah. As the youth starts praying, he can increase duas. Strengthen connection with Allah through supplications. Read drud sharif to increase love of Hazoor Paak pbuh. If we manage to instill these qualities in our children. There is not much that can stand in their way of bliss in this world or the next. And when something negative happens, they can find comfort through the salah and remembering Allah. When our earnings are halal, we keep ourself pure, inside and outside, and are able to develop sufficient self control, what we say and do, especially for the youth, will be good. All this is to manage the ups and downs of life, and keep us firm on the right path. If we are not clean in our private parts, or our soul, our the clothing is not from halal money, and we eat haram food. That will have a bad effect. We will be doing and saying things that are completely prohibited. When we help the youth and give them the proper tools, and good example through our practice, help them make good habits in their life. Allah will support them and keep them pure. Encourage them to make tawbah and repentance often, to cleanse their heart, every day. Ya Allah, make it easy for us, to help the youth master the muslim tools to finding comfort, help, support. So they can become the most succesful muttaqi of imam, of their time, Aameen.

black and white horsesThose who answered the call of the Messenger, performed the prayer and made ablution as commanded by their Prophet will be addressed as Al-Ghurrul-Muhajjalun on the Day of Resurrection.

Abu Hurayra raa narrated that the Messenger of Allah pbuh said: “On the Day of Resurrection, my followers will be called Al-Ghurrul-Muhajjalun from the trace of ablution”.

Ghurr in arabic means the bright radiance that is on the forehead of a horse. It is used here to represent beauty and fame. In this hadith, it means the light that will radiate on the face of the followers of Muhammad pbuh.

Muhajjal means the whiteness that is on the feet of a horse. The two words are meant to indicate light that will illuminate from their faces and limbs. May Allah include us amongst them. Ameen summa ameen.

The Messenger of Allah pbuh went to the (Baqi`) cemetery and said, “May you be secured from punishment, O dwellers of abode of the believers! We, if Allah wills, will follow you. I wish we see my brothers.” The Companions said, “O Messenger of Allah! Are not we your brothers?” He pbuh said, “You are my Companions, but my brothers are those who have not come into the world yet.” They said; “O Messenger of Allah! How will you recognize those of your Ummah who are not born yet?” He pbuh said, “Say, if a man has white-footed horses with white foreheads among horses which are pure black, will he not recognize his own horses?” They said; “Certainly, O Messenger of Allah!” He pbuh said, “They (my followers) will come with bright faces and white limbs because of wudu ; and I will arrive at the Hawd (Al-Kauthar) ahead of them.” Muslim

wudhu erase sinsThere are several hadiths told by our Prophet about the benefits of Wudhu. In a day those who pray all the prayers, does wudhu at least five times a day, if not more. Our Prophet (pbuh) has told us that purifications is half of faith. So we should keep ourself pure and neat at all time. Wudhu also raises our status as well. It can also be the reason why we enter Jannah. And also means of forgiveness for our sins. Let me share a few hadiths with you about the matter 😉

There are a lot of benefits of doing wudhu and keeping wudhu from throughout the day, being at work or at school. Nowadays when I go out I always keep a little bottle with me, in case I have to go to the washroom and use it as a vessel. I have also kept a few vessels at work so that not only I but also other muslims can benefit from keeping themselves clean. So you see it isn`t impossible if you make up your mind that you want to attain more good deeds in sha Allah.

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has said :

“On the day of resurrection, my Ummah will be called al-ghurr al-muhajjaloon because of traces of wudhu, so whoever can increase the area of his radiance, let him do so”. (Abu Dawood)

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has said:

“Whoever performs wudhu properly as enjoined by Allah the Most High, then the five prayers will be an expiation for whatever (of sin) comes in between”. (Sahih Muslim)

Doing wudhu well and with no other motive than to seek blessings from it to read salah, can be a way of you being forgiven your previous sins. It was narrated that Humran, the freed slave said:

“One person performed wudhu well, then he said: I saw the Prophet (pbuh) perform wudhu and doing it well, then he said: Whoever performs wudhu like this, then goes to the masjid, with no motive other than the prayer, his previous sins will be forgiven”. (Sahih Muslim).

As long as big sins are avoided there are a lot of blessings in reading the five prayers from one Jumu`ah to the other Jumu`ah.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah said: ” The obligatory five prayers, from one Jumu`ah to the other Jumu`ah are an expiation for whatever (sins) come in between, so long as one does not commit any major sins”. (Sahih Muslim).

Doing wudhu well and reading to rakat namaz can be your ticket to Jannah. The Prophet (pbuh) has said:

“There is no muslim who performs wudhu and does it well, then stands and prays to rakah in which his heart is focused on the qiblah, but Paradise will be due to him”. (Sahih Muslim).

In the same hadith it was also mentioned something about what you should read after you have done wudhu and have just stepped out of the washroom that will open the eight gates of Paradise for you. Do you want to know, simply read on 😉 The Prophet (pbuh) has said:

“There is no one amongst you who performs wudhu well and does it completely and says the second kalimah: ” Ashadu An la ilaha Illallah Wa Ashadu Anna Mohammadan Abduho Wa Rasoloh (I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad (pbuh) is His slave and Messenger`, but the eight gates of Paradise will be opened to him and he will enter through whichever one he wishes”. (Sahih Muslim)

When one does wudhu, it is extremely important that one washes ones nose thoroughly. The Prophet has said:

“.. When any of you does wudhu, let him put water in his nostrils, then let him blow it out”. (Sahih Muslim).

Though there are other rules of cleaning your nose if you are fasting. Asim bin Laqit bin Sabrah narrated from his father who said:

” O Messenger of Allah! Inform me about wudhu”. So he said: ” Perform wudhu well, and go between the fingers and perform istinshaq (water sniffed up in the nose) extensively except when fasting.” (Sahih, Jami`At-Tirmidhi).

Sins exit with the water of wudhu. Every one of us has sinned one time or the other. If you want to lessen your burden of sins, do wudhu and keep your wudhu throughout the day in sha Allah, at all times and your sins will diminish in sha Allah. The Prophet (pbuh) has said:

” When a muslim performs wudhu and washes his face, every sin that he looked at with his eyes comes out from his face with the water, or with the last drop of the water. When he washes his hands, every sin that he committed with his hands comes out from his hands with the water, or with the last drop of the water. When he washes his feet, every sin to which he walked with his feet comes out from his feet with the water, or with the last drop of the water, until he emerges cleansed of sins”. (Sahih Muslim).

If you do wudhu at times when it is difficult to do so, because of cold or other elements your raise your own status and erase your sins. Abu Hurayra narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) has said:

” Shall I not tell you something by means of which Allah erases sins and raises people in status?`. They said: `Yes, O Messenger of Allah`. He said: “Performing wudhu properly during times of when it is difficult to do so, taking many steps to the masjid, and waiting for prayer after prayer. That is your Ribat (it means guarding the frontier). (Sahih Muslim).

I guess if what the Prophet have said about wudhu matters to you, you would after you have read all these hadiths, go straight to the washroom and do properly wudhu. Not only that, but from the barakat of this holy month of ramadan we are in, why not try to start with new healthy habits like always keeping your wudhu throughout the day, in sha Allah. I`m in, are you? 😀

khusho in salah

For years I was reading salah without khusho. I didn`t know that for the salah to be accepted by Allah khusho is important. Now I know and alhamdolillah am getting better at it. Here I will share a few tips on how I improve my Khusho in salah.

  • Soften your heart with repentence

Throughout the day we do so many bad deeds. Some we know are wrong, and some we don`t even know are wrong. Those bad deeds make our heart hard. When we have a hard heart we can`t have khusho. So soften your heart with reading some dhikr and astagfar like the third kalima: “Subhan Allahi wal hamdo lillahi va lailaha illallaho vallaho akbar. Valla havla walla kuvata illa billa hilaliyil azeem”. You can say it about 100 times before you read the salah, when you have time. It really helps to keep khusho in the salah. Read this article of how to ask for forgiveness if and when we have many sins.

Some points of how to gain khusho in salah

  • Do properly wudhu before every salah. It helps you to calm down before you pray. Read about the benefits of wudhu here.
  • Try to listen to the adhaan 5 times daily. When Satan hears the call to prayer, he runs away to a distance like that of a distance of thirty-six miles from Medina. Abu Hurayra reported the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) as saying: When Satan hears the call to prayer, he turns back and breaks the wind so as not to bear the call being made, but when the call is finished he turns round and distracts (the minds of those who pray), and when he bears the Iqama he again runs away so as not to hear its voice and when it subsides, he comes back and distracts (the minds of those who stand for prayer).
  • The room of prayer should be simple and without anything that can and will distract you. Keep it simple.
  • The Prophet (pbuh) said: “When one of you prays, let him pray facing a sutrah, and let him draw close to it.”
  • Do dhikr or meditate before the salah or a lot throughout the day. When you are at work or anything else just do some dhikr while you are busy doing your work, it will keep you close to Allah, in sha Allah. The more we remember Allah outside the prayer the more we are able to have khusho while we are praying.
  • Remember death and the difficulties of the grave.
  • Know the meaning/interpretation of what you are reading in the salah. Try to memorize sentence by sentence what the arabic in the salah means. When you know what you are reading you will also feel the awe in standing before your Lord.
  • Know Allah. Know how Magnificent and Great He is. Learn more about his attributes and you will experience an awe when you are reading the salah.
  • Don`t be hasty. Read slowly in a slow pace without rushing through. Stop after every sentence and have a little pause. That is the sunnah way of reading it too.
  • Read the Quran daily, so you feel a connection with the book and its message, that will also keep your khusho on top.
  • Bounce back fast. When your thought slips away, simply bounce back, and think of the meaning. Don`t let one or two slips ruin your khusho because you get to angry that you are thinking of something else.
  • Read the ayah over and over again. When my khusho is low it helps for me to read one ayah repeatedly, and then the khusho comes back. Our sahabi used to read one ayah the whole night because he found many benefits from it. So reading the sentences over and over again will help you in maintaining your khusho.
  • Read different surah`s in the rakat`s. That will increase the concentration, and you will have to concentrate on what you say. It won`t get boring and you will keep you khusho.
  • Keep the light turned low. I sence that my khusho is better in a room where the light is low than in a bright room.
  • If it is Ramadan, don`t over-eat before you pray the salah. If the stomach is too full the khusho will be on a low level.

When you have khusho in salah, you can feel that your fingers or the whole hand gets numbed. You feel as there is a warm energy of light above you that is watching you and very close. You feel nearness to Allah, as He is with you.  “The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: ‘When a son of Adam recites a Sajdah* and prostrates, satan withdraws weeping, saying: ‘Woe is me! The son of Adam was commanded to prostrate and he prostrated, and Paradise will be his; I was commanded to prostrate and I refused, so I am doomed to Hell.’” Therefore be thankful that you are one of those whom does pray. May Allah grant us all to become khashieen and help us in becoming better and better at worshipping Him and may Allah accept our good deeds and give us ajr azeem for them, ameen summa ameen.

Our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was promised Jannah, even though he repented to Allah a hundred times a day. If he, as being so pure and with a heart of gold repented, than what are we if we compare ourselves to him. The narration says that Abu Burdah Ra said: “I heard the Prophet (pbuh) say:

“O People, repent to Allah, for I repent to Allah one hundred times a day”. (Sahih Muslim).

Every muslim in this world has done deeds they regret for doing. Every muslim wants Allah to forgive him/her. Every person has their own way of asking forgiveness. Allah forgives people whom ask for forgiveness for a deed and strive to never do that bad deed again.

“When those who believe in Our ayat come to you say “Salamun Alaykum” (peace be upon you) ; your Lord has written mercy for Himself, so that, if any of you does evil in ignorance and thereafter repents and does righteous good deeds, then surely, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful”.

This is my recipe for asking for forgiveness:

  • Keeping your wudhu at all times no matter if you`re at school or work. After you do wudhu and you step out of the toilet, read 2. Kalima, and InshaAllah in the Hereafter you would be able to step into Jannah from any of the eight gates of Jannah that you want to use. With the last drop of the water of wudhu you wash away the sins. Read more here.
  • Read “SubhanAllahi wabihamdihi, SubhanAllah hilAzim” 100 times after every salat when you have time for it. Than all your mistakes will inshaAllah be forgiven. The Prophet (pbuh) has said: There are two words which are light on the tongue, heavy on the scale and beloved to the Most Gracious. It means “How perfect Allah is and I praise Him. How perfect Allah is, The Supreme”. “And whoever says “Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi” (Glory and praise is to Allah), one hundred times in a day, his sins will be erased, even if they are like the foam of the sea”. (Sahih Muslim)
  • The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has said: “There is some kind of shadow upon my heart, so I ask Allah for forgiveness one hundred times a day.
  • It was narrated from Abu Bakr ra that he said to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) : “Teach me a supplication that I may say during my prayer”. He (pbuh) said : “Allahumma inni zalamtu nafsi zulman kabira, wa la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa anta, faghfirli maghfiratan min indika warhamni, innaka antal ghafurur-rahim”. (O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly and no one forgives sins but You, so grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me, for You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful”. (Muslim, Sahih).
  • Read “Allah humma Innaka affuwon tohibbol afwa faafu anni” 100 times after you have read the salat.
  • Do wudhu thoroughly and well and read 2 nafl of wudhu before the salat, where your mind is focused at Qibla and the meaning of what you are reciting. Then inshaAllah you will enter Jannah in the Hereafter and your past sins will be forgiven.
  • Read Ayatulkursi after every fardh salat, before you talk to anyone, and InshaAllah nothing will come in the way of you entering Jannah in the Hereafter.
  • Read Salat-ul-tasbhi on a friday, Eid day or whenever you have time, but not when it is makroh time ( not after fajr or asr, when the sun is going up or down). It is called the prayer of forgiveness. You can read more here.
  • The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: ” Allah will bring out a man from among my Ummah in the presence of the entire creation on the Day of Resurrection. Ninety nine (99) records of (bad deeds) will be spread out for him and each of these records, will be as far as the eye can see. Allah will then ask him: ” Will you deny any of these? Have my scribes been unjust to you?”.  He will say: “No, My Lord”. Allah will say: “Do you have any excuse?”. He will say: “No, My Lord”. Allah the exalted will then say: ” Yes you have a good deed that We have kept for you, for no unjustice will be done to you today”. A card will then be brought out in which the following  is written: ” I testify that there is no deity worthy of being worshipped except Allah and I testify that Muhammad (pbuh) is the Messenger”. Allah will then tell him: ” See your scale”. He will say: ” My Lord, what is this card? What are these records? “. Allah will say: “You shall not be wronged today”. The records will then be put on the scale and the card will be put on another. The card will then outweigh the records, for nothing can outweigh Allah`s Name. (Jami`At-Tirmidhi).
  • Read SayyidalAstagfar twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening before you go to bed. If you die that day or night, you will in sha Allah go to Jannah because you have read it. Read more here.
  • A hadith: It was narrated from Abu Hurayra Ra that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: ” Whoever says: ” La ilaha Illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahulmulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa huwa alaa kulli shay`in qadir” (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah with no partner or associate, His is the dominion, to Him is praise and He has Power over all things), 100 times in a day, it will be the equivalent of his freeing  one hundred slaves, and one hundred good deeds will be recorded for him, and one hundred bad deeds will be erased for him, and it will be a protection for him against the shaitan all day until evening comes, and no one will do anything better than what he has done except one who does more than that. (Sahih Muslim).

These are simple steps that erases sins even if they are many.  Remember that Allah can erase any sins as long as we strive to not do it again.  Pray for the whole of Ummah in your supplications, inshaAllah, ameen. This is how I pray whenever I have extra time to spend. Try to make good habits that last for a long time instead of reading 100 nafl one day and miss the prayers for the preceding 5 days because you got tired of reading the nafl prayers.

Even if we do the sin again, we should do astaghfar and do our best to ask Allah for forgiveness every time we fall short. There is not a person that doesn`t sin. But the muslims Allah likes the most are those whom ask a lot for forgiveness to Allah after they sin and try to avoid doing it again. May Allah make us of those whom always ask Him for forgiveness and makes us His pious worshippers. Ameen summa ameen.

My Prayer..

“O Allah, place light in my heart, and on my tongue light, and in my ears light and in my sight light, and above me light, and below me light, and to my right light, and to my left light, and before me light and behind me light. Place in my soul light. Magnify for me light, and amplify for me light. Make for me light and make me a light. O Allah, grant me light, and place light in my nerves, and in my body light and in my blood light and in my hair light and in my skin light.” Ameen
