What is the American dream? What is America today? What makes an American an American? Mostly people talk about becoming famous. Rich. Live a luxurious life. Have everything you can have that money can buy. As many cars as you need. Become rich in a few months and not work for the rest of the life. How many of those who have become popular because of an art they know, have become more humble? When we hear about the life of the rich and famous, people admire them. What a life they have. Everyone around them are so gorgeous. What happens to a life, when they no longer experience any difficulty? Everything is easy, they can buy what they want, at any time? No restrictions? Allah takes away the joy and satisfaction? A rapper once said, I have everything I desire, still I have no peace. Maybe he lost what he needed the most to achieve peace. The love of Allah, and being obedient to Him.

How Is Life In Norway

What is the Norwegian dream? Back to basics. People travel almost every other weekend to the mountains, away from the city, where they can find peace. Go skiing. Simple life in a cottage. They only bring with them the essentials. They connect with the quietness of nature and the peace surrounding them. Away from turmoil, cars and traffic signals. They find themselves through the quietness. The humbleness that is seen is very beautiful. Before the world became a global unity. Life was easier. Most people weren`t so much aware of the right clothes. They spent more time on being the right person. The increase of media, has resulted in people becoming so aware of fashion, that it has lost it`s value. Now, it`s more about what you’re wearing than who you are? Is it the right brand? Norway has also been affected by this. Many people are trying to find the american dream in Norway. But that`s not typical norwegian. There was a time, when the leaders also lived a very ordinary life. A very norwegian simple life. The fear of terrorism has changed how we live. Many important people doesn`t leave their home with out people who protect them.

Simplicity

When we compare these two types of national dreams, what is the conclusion? We find peace where we find simplicity. Where there is less noise. Connect with oneself, and family. Away from gadgets, tv etc. Talking. Connecting with each other without distractions. The characteristics of a typical norwegian has some matters in common with typical muslims values. Finding tranquility, connecting with Allah. See His Beauty. How beautiful He has made Norway. It`s not only the mountains and the sea`s. If we look at the bunad. It is different from city to city. One matter it has in common, it shows the femininity of a woman, while the same time, a modest dress. This is the heritage of Norway. If we look at what american woman wants to wear, they are starving their body to fit into a dress that shows much skin. The national dress of Norway, is very expensive. Teenager are often gifted it from the family in their teens.

Beauty In Re-Use

The new thing now, is to own the most newest thing. New phone, new car, new design, new fashion. If it’s old it’s out. Many american magazines are influencing their readers into becoming more materialistic. When the phone breaks, we buy another of the newest designs. Many Norwegians are very sensitive about the environment. Not even that, they find pride in wearing their grandparents clothes from their younger years. A family can often re-use clothes in many generations, before their worn out. And they proudly say it to their friends, and do not hide it. Many still doesn’t care more about newest fashion and design, than something from their family. Often many designs do come back after several years. They also often find proudness in buying second-hand, clothing and furniture. Many people have made it their hobby, to go to such places and try to find some real antiques. Often do they get a great bargain. The money sent to help people, and they find one of a kind of something real ancient an awesome. They care for the history behind the ancient stuff.

Take Care Of Their Health

With eating fast food and less exercise, it is easy to gain weight. The majority of American has come into this vicious circle, where they make a little effort to keep their health. In general Norwegians are very active people. They like to keep themselves fit by being active in summer and winter sports. Not only with their school, but also with family, friends and free time. It is a part of their culture. Taking part in outdoor activities. Spending time camping.

Norwegian Support Good Causes

Often when there is any kind of people who need help. They eagerly take part in collecting donations. In demonstrations against oppression, there are more Norwegian participants, than the ethnicity of the people they are fighting for. They care, they listen. Often supportive of the weak, the oppressed. They spend many hours daily and weekly for voluntary work for the less fortunate. The refugees. Those who live on the street. Finding missing people. They want to help the community. Give back of the goodness, they have. Many are doing much remarkable efforts. It is not about money. They genuinely care for the weak. It’s very inspiring. Even with family, children, and many of the same chores of other muslims, they still manage to take out time for the betterment of the community.

They Earn Their Money

They earn their living. Many take education, and work to attain a meaningful living. After retirement, many help as volunteers helping children with their school work. They don’t see work as burdening. Good work ethics. Being active. Utilizing their skills.

Your Voice Is Heard

The democratic system. Their open debate. Often amazes me. People can voice their opinions. They often have open debate about matters around social security. The good news is, people are heard. The bad news can be, that people (countries, groups) can harm them through the info they get via media.

Norwegian Muslim?

There is much beauty in the Norwegian heritage and culture. There is much goodness in calling ourself Norwegian muslims. Proud of where we live. Thankfulness. Gratitude. Muslims come from many backgrounds, many ethnicities, many colors. One matter they have in common is their deen. We can still be good muslims and good Norwegian citizen, at the same time.

Much comfort, makes us forget our purpose, and distracts us from remembering Allah. Often the test we often fail in, is the test of ease. The comfort that makes us forget Allah, is a punishment, even if we experience happiness. True happiness and contentment can only be found by being close to Allah and in full submission to Him.
To keep our nafs from getting out of control, it needs some kind of difficulty or trial.
If we can, sometimes use the car, other times, walk or take public transport.
If we can, sometimes have a grand dinner, other times, eat food that is hard/burned/broken.
If we can, sometimes use really nice clothes, but mostly use ordinary clothes.
If we can, sometimes sleep on the bed, but once in a while sit or sleep on the floor, without cushions.
If we don’t keep our nafs in control at the time of immense joy or comfort, we might not be able to keep our feets connected to the ground.
Our blessings are not given to us because we deserve them, but because of Allah’s MercifulNess. Mainly they are given, to try us, because Allah wants us to be grateful for the favours He gives us.
When we are grateful for blessings, He increases them. Allah dislikes us becoming arrogant or ungrateful.
Being humble and filled with humility, when given an blessing, is the sunnah way of thankfulness.
May Allah preserve us and help us always love and follow the sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him). May Allah cultivate in us the best qualities of the best muslims of all time. And make us of those people He loves the most. May Allah guide us to love each other for His sake. And become each others righteous friends for eternity, where we will be re-united beneath His Throne on the Day of Judgement, and in Firdous. Allah accept our supplication. Allahumma Aameen.

internet, teenager, family,We often get so consumed in this materialistic world, that we tend to forget what is important in our life: Our Loved Ones ❤ I was taught a lesson in this regard.

For a couple a days now we are renewing the living room. We haven`t had any internet or telephone since a couple of days. But we have our mobile phones in case of an emergency. These couple of days has made me realize a few things. Now as we don`t have internet or television and no living room, we have to eat in the kitchen. No distractions. No one is watching the news 24/7. We have to what they say, look at each other and actually have a conversation. It feels like we have met after a long time and are talking about stuff in our life. I haven`t been so content and calm as I am nowadays. We smile, we laugh, we quarrel, we discuss, we talk together and the atmosphere is lovely.

The fact that we often forget our relations because of all kinds of distractions is not rare. Sometimes family members grow so far away because of this that they don`t know each other anymore. I guess in a couple of days, everything will be like it was, and we`ll become busy in our lives. These days have taught me the true value of the relations in my life.
Simple life = Happy life and No television = Happy wife.

Our relations are important in our life. Not our job, hobby, interests etc, but rather the people who make our life worth living. Even if we don`t always agree with them about everything. Just admit it, if it wouldn`t have been for our family and loved ones, we would most certainly not have been what we are today and where we are today. ❤ It is a blessing, cherish it, and tell them. ❤

These small incidents that wakes us, once in a while, makes an impact on our thinking. We realize what our priorities are. When we first have realized that, what is important is to keep that thought and not let it fade away. As some people say, sometimes life knocks you down on your knees, little do we know, that the same position is perfect for sujood. Allah wants us to ask Him.

khusho in salah

For years I was reading salah without khusho. I didn`t know that for the salah to be accepted by Allah khusho is important. Now I know and alhamdolillah am getting better at it. Here I will share a few tips on how I improve my Khusho in salah.

  • Soften your heart with repentence

Throughout the day we do so many bad deeds. Some we know are wrong, and some we don`t even know are wrong. Those bad deeds make our heart hard. When we have a hard heart we can`t have khusho. So soften your heart with reading some dhikr and astagfar like the third kalima: “Subhan Allahi wal hamdo lillahi va lailaha illallaho vallaho akbar. Valla havla walla kuvata illa billa hilaliyil azeem”. You can say it about 100 times before you read the salah, when you have time. It really helps to keep khusho in the salah. Read this article of how to ask for forgiveness if and when we have many sins.

Some points of how to gain khusho in salah

  • Do properly wudhu before every salah. It helps you to calm down before you pray. Read about the benefits of wudhu here.
  • Try to listen to the adhaan 5 times daily. When Satan hears the call to prayer, he runs away to a distance like that of a distance of thirty-six miles from Medina. Abu Hurayra reported the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) as saying: When Satan hears the call to prayer, he turns back and breaks the wind so as not to bear the call being made, but when the call is finished he turns round and distracts (the minds of those who pray), and when he bears the Iqama he again runs away so as not to hear its voice and when it subsides, he comes back and distracts (the minds of those who stand for prayer).
  • The room of prayer should be simple and without anything that can and will distract you. Keep it simple.
  • The Prophet (pbuh) said: “When one of you prays, let him pray facing a sutrah, and let him draw close to it.”
  • Do dhikr or meditate before the salah or a lot throughout the day. When you are at work or anything else just do some dhikr while you are busy doing your work, it will keep you close to Allah, in sha Allah. The more we remember Allah outside the prayer the more we are able to have khusho while we are praying.
  • Remember death and the difficulties of the grave.
  • Know the meaning/interpretation of what you are reading in the salah. Try to memorize sentence by sentence what the arabic in the salah means. When you know what you are reading you will also feel the awe in standing before your Lord.
  • Know Allah. Know how Magnificent and Great He is. Learn more about his attributes and you will experience an awe when you are reading the salah.
  • Don`t be hasty. Read slowly in a slow pace without rushing through. Stop after every sentence and have a little pause. That is the sunnah way of reading it too.
  • Read the Quran daily, so you feel a connection with the book and its message, that will also keep your khusho on top.
  • Bounce back fast. When your thought slips away, simply bounce back, and think of the meaning. Don`t let one or two slips ruin your khusho because you get to angry that you are thinking of something else.
  • Read the ayah over and over again. When my khusho is low it helps for me to read one ayah repeatedly, and then the khusho comes back. Our sahabi used to read one ayah the whole night because he found many benefits from it. So reading the sentences over and over again will help you in maintaining your khusho.
  • Read different surah`s in the rakat`s. That will increase the concentration, and you will have to concentrate on what you say. It won`t get boring and you will keep you khusho.
  • Keep the light turned low. I sence that my khusho is better in a room where the light is low than in a bright room.
  • If it is Ramadan, don`t over-eat before you pray the salah. If the stomach is too full the khusho will be on a low level.

When you have khusho in salah, you can feel that your fingers or the whole hand gets numbed. You feel as there is a warm energy of light above you that is watching you and very close. You feel nearness to Allah, as He is with you.  “The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: ‘When a son of Adam recites a Sajdah* and prostrates, satan withdraws weeping, saying: ‘Woe is me! The son of Adam was commanded to prostrate and he prostrated, and Paradise will be his; I was commanded to prostrate and I refused, so I am doomed to Hell.’” Therefore be thankful that you are one of those whom does pray. May Allah grant us all to become khashieen and help us in becoming better and better at worshipping Him and may Allah accept our good deeds and give us ajr azeem for them, ameen summa ameen.

My Prayer..

“O Allah, place light in my heart, and on my tongue light, and in my ears light and in my sight light, and above me light, and below me light, and to my right light, and to my left light, and before me light and behind me light. Place in my soul light. Magnify for me light, and amplify for me light. Make for me light and make me a light. O Allah, grant me light, and place light in my nerves, and in my body light and in my blood light and in my hair light and in my skin light.” Ameen
