This is from my notes at facebook. It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: ” Al-Buraq – which is a tall white beast, bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule, whose stride reaches as far as he can see – was brought to me, and I rode it until I reached Bait Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). There i tethered it to the ring which was used by the Prophets, and I entered the Masjid and prayed to rakah there.
Then I came out, and Jibril (pbuh) came to me with a vessel of wine and milk. I chose the milk and Jibril (pbuh) said : You have chosen the fitrah ( the natural thing). Then he took us up to the heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (pbuh). It was said: has he been sent for? He said: Yes, he has. Then it was opened for us, and there was Adam (pbuh) who welcomed me and prayed for good for me.
Then he took us upto the second heaven and Jibril (pbuh) asked for it to open. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (pbuh). It was said: has he been sent for? He said: Yes, he has.Then it was opened for us, and there were the maternal cousins Eisa bin Maryam (pbuh) and Yahya bin Zakariya (pbuh). They welcomed me and prayed good for me.
Then he took us upto the third heaven and Jibril (pbuh) asked for it to be opened. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (pbuh). It was said: has he been sent for? He said: Yes, he has. Then it was opened for us and there was Yusuf (pbuh) who had been given half of the worldly beauty. He welcomed me and prayed for me.
Then he took us upto the fourht heaven and Jibril asked for it to open. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (pbuh). It was said: has he been sent for? He said: Yes, he has. Then it was opened for us, and there was Idris (pbuh). He welcomed me and prayed good for me. Allah the Almighty and Sublime says: And we raised him to a high station” (Quran 19:57).
Then he took us upto the fifth heaven and Jibril (pbuh) asked for it to be opened. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (pbuh). It was said: has he been sent for? He said: Yes, he has. Then it was opened for us and there was Harun (pbuh). He welcomed me and prayed good for me.
Then he took us upto the sixth heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (pbuh). It was said: has he been sent for? He said: Yes, he has. Then it was opened for us and there was Mosa (pbuh). He welcomed me and prayed good for me.
Then he took us upto the seventh heaven and Jibril (pbuh) asked for it to be opened. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (pbuh). It was said: has he been sent for? He said: Yes, he has. Then it was opened for us and there was Ibrahim (pbuh) leaning his back against Al-Bait Al-Mamur (the Much Frequented House); every day seventy thousands angels enter it and they never return to it.
Then he took me to As-Sidrat Al- Muntaha (Lote-Tree of the Outmost Boundary); its leaves were like ears of elephants and its fruit s were like large earthenware jars. When it was covered with that which covered it by Allah`s command, it changed and there is no one in Allah`s creation who can describe its beauty.
Then Allah revealed what He revealed to me and enjoined fifty prayers on me every day and night. I came back down to Mosa (pbuh) and he said: What did your Lord enjoin upon your Ummah? I said: fifty prayers. He said: Go back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it (the numbers of prayers) for each day and night, for your Ummah will not be able to do that. I tried and tested the Children of Israel (and found them to weak to bear it). So I went back to my Lord and said: O Lord, reduce it for my Ummah. So He reduced it by five. I went back to Mosa (pbuh) and he said: it has been reduced by five. He said: your Ummah will not be able to do that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it further. I kept going back and forth between my Lord (Blessed be He and Most High) and Mosa (pbuh) until He said: O Muhammad, they are five prayers each day and night for every prayer there will be a tenfold reward. and that is fifty prayers. Whoever thinks of doing a good deed will be written down for him, and if he does it, it will be recorded for him as ten good deeds. Whoever thinks of doing a bad deed and does not do it, nothing will be written down for him, and if he does it, one bad deed will be written down for him. Then I came back down to Mosa (pbuh) and told him about that. He said: Go back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it further. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: I have gone back to my Lord until I feel shy before Him. (i.e. to shy to go back to him about that). (Sahih Muslim)
